In the wake of Covid-19, the mass murders in Portapique, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, and Black Lives Matter, the New Leaf Board and staff would like to take this opportunity to speak openly about the about the pain and injustices that women and minorities have been subject to, around the world, but also here in Canada.
At New Leaf, our belief is that open and honest communication is a key element to being able to inflict change. The work we do at New Leaf directly challenges the societal structures that were designed to not only oppress women, but also peoples and communities of color, and indigenous peoples. This includes all forms of sexism, racism, homophobia, etc where any group of people are not given the same dignity and respect or opportunities as those thriving in the dominant society. The events over these past months have left us shaken while also strengthening our commitment towards working for the safety, equality and fairness, dignity and respect for women specifically, but also standing in support of all people who suffer from being oppressed. Systemic, societal and individual racism, and abuse cannot be tolerated. New Leaf will always challenge these injustices and structures of hate. We stand in solidarity with you. We support you. - New Leaf Board and Staff
